Reiki with Animals & Their Human Companions

It’s often recommended that the animal’s human companions participate in Reiki sessions alongside them.

As highlighted in the Small Animal Reiki section, our animal companions are deeply attuned to us. They can sense even the most subtle emotional and energetic shifts, and their well-being is often closely tied to our own state of mind. In some cases, pets may even mirror our emotions and behaviors, particularly when they share a close bond with us.

Hands-off Reiki is used unless the animal initiates contact. This approach is especially gentle and comforting for animals who are touch-sensitive, dealing with pain, or carrying behavioral wounds from past abuse or neglect. Reiki helps gently peel away those layers, allowing animals to rebuild trust and open their hearts to love and compassion again.

Because of this sensitivity, it’s essential to remain mindful of the energy we bring into their space. Animals are naturally grounded, peaceful beings. They thrive in calm, balanced environments. However, the lives we’ve created—for ourselves and for them—often include stress, noise, and imbalance.

Reiki offers a chance to return to stillness, not only for the animal but for the human as well, supporting healing and harmony for both.
